Antonella Corda Cannonau di Sardegna

Country: Italy   Region: Sardinia

Varietal: Cannonau  Vintage: 2023

Colour: Red Style: Dry

Producer: Antonella Corda

Description:

Antonella Corda, the granddaughter of the famed viticulturist Antonio Argiolas, founded her winery in 2010 after finishing her masters in viticulture and winemaking at the prestigious Edmund Mach Foundation. Her approach blends a proud, century-old family tradition of winemaking with ambition and innovation. Antonio, who lived to the age of 104, left Antonella two of his prized vineyards, located around the village of Sardana, a few kilometres north of Cagliari. The mild climate, water availability and the rich calcareous soils here give the wines a unique character and a signature freshness. Antonella follows a sustainable approach and the vineyards are farmed organically.

Cannonau (also known as Grenache elsewhere). This wine highlights the elegance and warmth of the Mediterranean climate, while maintaining a balanced structure and vibrant fruit expression.

The Cannonau comes from Antonio Argiolas’s Mitza S’ollastu vineyard on the outskirts of Ussana just north of Cagliari in the south of the island. Antonella Corda replanted the Cannonau in 2012 on drought-resistant 110R rootstock, which helps control Cannonau’s natural vigour.

Tasting Note: Aromas of cherries, raspberries and blackberries accompany more complex and delicate notes of roses and white pepper. The palate shows concentration and very delicate tannins with a spicy hint of white pepper on the finish.

Food Matches: Cannonau's robustness and fruity notes complement dishes like lamb chops, wild boar stew, or hearty pasta dishes with rich tomato-based sauces.
